Hello Gervais Students and Parents,
A couple of sketchy emails are arriving in staff mailboxes and I think they may have started in one or more student mailboxes. If you get an email with one of these subject lines:
“JOB FOR STUDENTS” or “Verification of Email Validation”
Please just delete it. If you think your account is infected, please contact me. Thanks.

We have discovered discrepancies between different versions of the GHS/GMS calendar that have been printed and posted online. We want to clarify that this Wednesday (June 3) will be an early-release day with students being dismissed at 1:00 PM.

Wednesday will be the last day of classes for seniors on-track to graduate. Those still not on-track to graduate will be required to come on Thursday (June 4) to get any missing work done.

Seniors will then need to report at GHS on Friday (June 5) at 9:30 AM with their cap and gown for the senior parade and graduation practice.

As we wrap up the school year, please make sure students return any library books or Chromebooks and pay any dues in the office. Thanks so much.

We have an exciting opportunity for GHS students to participate in the Ready2Respond week-long summer camp designed to prepare high school students with real-world skills in emergency response, workforce readiness, and teamwork. There is no cost to participate in this overnight camp from June 22-26, but there are only 6 slots available for GHS students, and we will fill them on a first come, first serve basis. Students can sign up with Ben Poff in the library by Wednesday, June 3. Priority will be given to students grades 9-11.

Here is a video prepared by Ben Poff sharing more information:

Hello Gervais Families,

We understand that there is some confusion over an incorrect version of the school calendar that lists tomorrow as a day off for students . We want to clarify that tomorrow, Friday, May 22nd, is a regular school day. We apologize for the error.

Monday is Memorial Day and is a day off for students. Please enjoy the long weekend and national holiday honoring U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the Armed Forces.

We just realized that the GHS and GMS calendar posted on the district website has a mistake this week, and we want to clarify that there will be school this Friday, but not on Monday. Monday is Memorial Day, a national holiday, to honor all U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the Armed Forces. Thanks

During this event, we will discuss your thoughts and ideas for next year’s substance prevention and education topics. Our goal for next year is to ensure we are covering topics that parents want to learn more about in order to help reduce the chances of students participating in risky behaviors. Please mark your calendars, we hope to see you there!

Gervais High School will be conducting Oregon’s Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey for grades 9-11 on April 28. The SEED Survey will help ODE gather information about the educational experiences of students in Oregon. This information will help ODE to develop appropriate resources and supports for districts in Oregon, and better target those resources where they are most needed. SEED Survey data may also help districts develop a fuller picture of their local contexts and make strategic modifications to curriculum, instruction, and related academic supports that they offer students.

We plan to have each student complete this quick survey, unless their family completes the opt-out form. More information, including opt-out instructions, is in the attached flyer and answers to additional questions and the actual survey questions can be found on the ODE website: https://www.oregon.gov/ode/educator-resources/assessment/Pages/Student_Educational_Equity_Development_Survey.aspx

Copies of the opt-out form are available at the GHS main office.
