Happy Friday! I just posted the weekly GMS Newsletter. Please take a look at the schedule for next week because it is different then a normal 5 day school week. Student grades will be done next Friday. Check you student's grades and talk to your child if they are failing a class. Last minute to get work turned in. Have a nice week-end. Mrs. Johnson

Dear Parents,
As many of you may be aware during the last several days there has been significant activity by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) in neighboring communities.
On January 17, 2025, I sent out a letter explaining under Oregon Law ORS 181A.820 and ORS 336.184-187, law enforcement agencies cannot use the public school system to carry out their tasks and public agencies are not allowed to disclose student records to those agencies.
For your information:
•
If ICE agents show up at one of our schools, your building principals will send those agents to the district office and I will verify credentials, determine their purpose for being in the district and then I will contact our legal counsel for guidance. At the same time, we will immediately contact parents/guardians or emergency contacts.
•
If a law enforcement agent contacts a staff member asking for student or staff information, they are to send those requests to the district office and inform their principals immediately.
•
If ICE agents show up inquiring about specific students or families, we will notify those families independently and will not be providing any information to those agents.
•
All building secretaries and principals have been given scripts on how to handle inquiries. Basically, the message is to be polite and refer them to the district office.
•
Transportation—Drivers have been informed that if a student is not comfortable getting off the bus, for whatever reason, to continue on and let the transportation director know. We will bring them back to the school and have people meet them to ensure they are safe. The district will then contact parents to determine next steps.
It is important that we do the best we can to keep politics out of the day-to-day operations of each school so that we can keep the focus on fostering positive and safe relationships with our students, families and staff and provide the best educational experience for everyone.
We know that this is a stressful time for students, families and staff. Please keep communication open with your building principal and school counselors so the district is able to best support you during these challenging times.

Si agentes de ICE se presentan en alguna de nuestras escuelas, los directores de las escuelas los remitirán a la oficina del distrito y yo verificaré sus credenciales, determinaré el motivo de su presencia en el distrito y luego me comunicaré con nuestro asesor legal para obtener orientación. Al mismo tiempo, nos comunicaremos de inmediato con los padres/tutores o contactos de emergencia.

Si un agente del orden público se comunica con un miembro del personal solicitando información sobre estudiantes o personal, este deberá remitir dichas solicitudes a la oficina del distrito e informar a su director de inmediato.
