Message from Mrs. Johnson -
Oh My! The number of students and staff out on Friday because of sickness was crazy. Luckily, no school on Monday for President’s Day. Make sure everyone in your family is getting extra sleep, washing their hands, drinking water, and just trying to take care of each other. If your child has a fever, throwing up, or has diarrhea they must stay home. See everyone back on Tuesday!
Feel Better,
Mrs. Johnson

This is the last week of boy’s basketball (unless they go to play-offs - More to come on that). There are three games this week. The boys are crushing it this year!
For the next two weeks, there is open track practice starting on Tuesday, Feb. 17th after school. Practice starts at 3:30 and ends at 5:00 every day. Any 6th-8th graders interested in doing track or field events should bring workout clothes to school and be ready for practice. This practice is not mandatory. The official start of track season is Monday, March 2nd. All athletes should bring a water bottle and wear layers for the weather.
Counselor Aloha:
Friendship Boundaries
Setting boundaries with friends involves identifying your personal needs regarding time, space, communication, and emotional capacity, then communicate them, clearly and consistently. Use direct, "I" statement communication, such as "I cannot take calls after 10 p.m.," to establish limits on behavior, energy, or time, protecting your wellbeing. Remind your child that boundaries in friendships are important in setting a tone for a healthy friendship.
Thanks,
Ms. Aloha
Substance Prevention:
Did you know that deaths involving fentanyl grew faster for Oregon teens than for any other age group? Fentanyl is involved in 90% of young Oregonian drug deaths, causing drugs to now be the leading cause of death for this age group (15-24).
Some teens reach for pills to self-medicate or have fun. Some teens may take a pill given to them by a friend they trust. Parents and caregivers can help kids stay safe by talking with them about the dangers of fentanyl, fake pills, and today’s drug environment. That’s why Song for Charlie and Trillium Community Health Plan have teamed up to launch “The New Drug Talk: Connect to Protect Oregon” program. This free online resource gives you the tools you need to have conversations with the kids in your life. We will also be having a parent night on Wednesday, February 25th, from 5:30-7:30pm, where we will screen the film “The New Drug Talk” and have professionals from Marion County lead the parent discussion.
