Counselor  Aloha:

Mental health challenges in teens are real, increasing, and widespread, with over 5 million U.S. adolescents (20.3%) diagnosed with conditions like anxiety and depression in 2023. Rates have surged by 35% since 2016. Roughly 1 in 5 teens face severe mental health struggles, often involving feelings of hopelessness, which, if ignored, can severely impact their development and daily functioning. Please talk to your child if you see signs of mental health challenges. Don't be afraid to reach out for professional help or call your school counselor about steps in getting your child on a healthy mental health path.

Thanks,

Ms. Aloha

Nurse Courtney:

A few reminders from the nurse: school exclusion day for incomplete immunizations is coming up on February 25th, 2026. If your student has incomplete immunizations, please address these as soon as possible. If you have any questions, or need any assistance, please contact the District Nurse. We are still in the midst of cold and flu season in our schools and community. Please remind your students to wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs and sneezes, and keep them home if they are sick (fever, vomiting, or diarrhea). Please encourage your students and family to drink plenty of water, eat nutritious foods, and get adequate sleep. Please contact the District Nurse if you have any questions about illness, symptoms, or when to keep your child home from school.

Please give me a call at 503-792-3803 ext. 5076 or email me at courtney_utter@gervais.k12.or.us

Thank you!  Courtney, RN
