Counselor Aloha:
Coming into my 4th school year of counseling at GMS, students express that it can be difficult to talk to parents about their emotions and thoughts. It is important, as the students get older, to have an open and respectful conversation to build trust. Here are some practicing positive discipline tips:
Understand the meaning behind the behavior.
Focus on controlling yourself-not your child.
Be consistent with your expectations.
Give attention to the behavior you like-not the behavior you don't.
Be an active listener and show interest in helping to solve the issue.
Thanks,
Ms. Aloha
Substance Prevention:
Hi GMS parents and guardians! As the holidays approach this week, your students will learn about Peer Influence and practice their Refusal Skills with Dr. Crystal Collier from Know Your Neuro. We hope this video and classroom activity increase your students' refusal skills.
If you have any questions or want to learn more about local substance treatment centers, or would like to share your sobriety story, please email or call at: guadalupe_lopez@gervais.k12.or.us | 503-792-3803 x4036.
