MESSAGE FROM MRS. JOHNSON -
Happy Spirit Week at GMS! Below in the “Important Dates for the Week” are the days and how to dress up. There is a contest between the homerooms - with the most students who dressed up during the week.
Wanted to let you know that Gervais School District now has a safety system in place on all student use chrome books. If a student should type in something concerning their safety or the safety of other students, principals will be alerted. If this should happen, I will be in touch with the student’s parent or guardian to share what was written.
Have a good week-end,
Mrs. Johnson

Counselor Aloha:
"No One Eats Alone" is a student-led program that promotes inclusion and combats social isolation in schools, primarily by encouraging students to sit with and talk to peers who might otherwise be alone at lunch. Parents can support this initiative by talking to their children about the importance of inclusion and encouraging them to be open to new friends.
GMS “No One Eats Alone” was Wednesday, October 22nd. The students in leadership were able to promote the Rock, Paper, Scissor Challenge to gain new friendships with all grades.

Substance Prevention:
Hi GMS! Last week, I mentioned that October is Substance Use and Misuse Prevention Month. If you still feel inclined to share your story (which would be shared anonymously to our students via posters), please email me. This can be a great way for our students to see how community members have gone from addiction to sobriety--a substance prevention project, if you will.
Our teachers presented on the dangers of Stimulants and will continue with it next week. The program we are using is by Stanford University: A comprehensive, harm-reduction-based drug intervention curriculum.
If you have any questions or want to learn more about local substance treatment centers, or would like to share your sobriety story, please email or call at: guadalupe_lopez@gervais.k12.or.us | 503-792-3803 x4036.
Have a great weekend. :)
