Counselor  Aloha:

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Parents can talk to your children about bullying, online and in-person. To support your children, please have open conversations, teach empathy and respect, model positive behavior, and advocate for your child's safety.

Ms. Aloha

Substance Prevention:

Hi GMS! Did you know October is Substance Use and Misuse Prevention Month? If you feel inclined to share your story (which would be shared anonymously to our students via posters), please email me. This can be a great way for our students to see how community members have gone from addiction to sobriety--a substance prevention project!

Our teachers will be presenting information on the dangers of Stimulants these next two weeks. The program we are using is by Stanford University: A comprehensive, harm-reduction-based drug intervention curriculum. Stimulants are drugs that increase activity in the central nervous system, leading to heightened alertness, energy, and attention, all of which can be seen as "positive effects." However, the misuse of stimulants can lead to serious and potentially fatal physical and psychological problems.

If you have any questions or want to learn more about local substance treatment centers, or would like to share your sobriety story, please email or call at: guadalupe_lopez@gervais.k12.or.us | 503-792-3803 x4036.
