WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

October 6, 2025

MESSAGE FROM MRS. JOHNSON -

Wednesday, Oct. 8th are conferences. Your invitation with the date and time went home with your child on Tuesday, Sept. 30th. We set up an hour block of time for you to come in for the conference. You and your child can arrive any time during that hour slot.  For those of you that are unable to attend during that time, please call the office at 503-792-3803 ext. 2020 to get a different time slot.

Please bring your child with you to the conference. He/She needs to hear what the teacher has to say. Some students are doing great while others are struggling. It is important that all parents/guardians and students attend the conferences.

Thank You,

Mrs. Johnson

Counselor  Aloha:

As we go into a new school year, relationships will start to form. Creating healthy relationships with friends and partners is very important. Please talk to your child about healthy relationships. Here are some key points:

  • Communication: Expressing thoughts and feelings openly and honestly and actively listening to your partner's perspective without judgment.

  • Trust: A strong foundation where both partners feel secure, knowing they can rely on each other to be honest and dependable.

  • Respect: Valuing each other's individuality, opinions, and boundaries, both personal and physical.

  • Support: Encouraging and celebrating each other's accomplishments and being a reliable source of emotional support during difficult times.

  • Autonomy: Having a healthy sense of individuality and independence, which includes pursuing personal interests, maintaining individual friendships, and having personal space.

  • Compromise: The ability to work together to find solutions that honor the needs of both partners, especially during disagreements.

Ms. Aloha

Substance Prevention:

Hi GMS parents and guardians! This year, we will continue our substance prevention lessons to educate and inform our students on the risks of substance use on their developing brains. This year, we are changing this up by using a program created by Stanford University: A comprehensive, harm-reduction-based drug intervention curriculum. This website has great preventative information for families as well.

If you have any questions or want to learn more about local substance treatment centers, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Nurse Courtney:

There has been an increase in illness going around, including cold and flu symptoms—please remind your student to wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs and sneezes, and stay home if they are too sick to come to school (please see the ODE Symptom Based Exclusion Chart on the district webpage). These simple steps help to keep everyone healthy and reduce the spread of illnesses at school. Please contact the Gervais School District Nurse with any questions!

Please give me a call at 503-792-3803 ext. 5076 or email me at courtney_utter@gervais.k12.or.us

Thank you!

Courtney
