MESSAGE FROM MRS. JOHNSON -
This week is school picture week. It is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30. Even if you do not buy pictures every student will have their picture taken. These pictures will be used for Power School and the 8th grade Promotion certificates at the end of the year.
Oct. 8th and 9th are conferences. Your invitation with the date and time will be coming home with your child on Tuesday, Sept. 30th. We will be setting up an hour block of time for you to come in for the conference. You and your child can arrive any time during that hour slot.
Thank You,
Mrs. Johnson

Counselor Aloha:
Investing in mental health is essential because it improves an individual's overall well-being, which leads to better coping skills, stronger relationships and increased productivity. At GMS, we want to see your child confident and happy. This can benefit their academic success and drive to want more out of life. If you see that your child is struggling with mental health, please check out Stronger Oregon. This link will help you find a provider (counselor) that specializes in the area of concern that your child might be experiencing and except OHP. Please take that step to get your child in a better place, mentally.
Ms. Aloha
Substance Prevention:
Hi GMS parents and guardians! This year, we will continue our substance prevention lessons to educate and inform our students on the risks of substance use on their developing brains. This year, we are changing this up by using a program created by Stanford University: A comprehensive, harm-reduction-based drug intervention curriculum. This website has great preventative information for families as well.
If you have any questions or want to learn more about local substance treatment centers, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Nurse Courtney:
There has been an increase in illness going around, including cold and flu symptoms—please remind your student to wash their hands frequently, cover their coughs and sneezes, and stay home if they are too sick to come to school (please see the ODE Symptom Based Exclusion Chart on the district webpage). These simple steps help to keep everyone healthy and reduce the spread of illnesses at school. Please contact the Gervais School District Nurse with any questions!
Please give me a call at 503-792-3803 ext. 5076 or email me at courtney_utter@gervais.k12.or.us.
Thank you!
Courtney
