Winter Planning Sets the Stage for a Busy Spring
During the winter months, cold weather and the holidays may have slowed on-site construction, but significant progress continued behind the scenes on multiple bond-funded projects. Over the past several weeks, planning, permitting, budgeting,
and coordination work have moved forward steadily. As the district heads into late winter and early spring, that groundwork is beginning to translate into visible construction activity and forward momentum across campuses.
Elementary School
Work on the new Elementary School project continues to build momentum. During the winter months, the full permit set was completed and submitted for review, and the project budget was approved. While final cost details are still being refined by Kirby Nagelhout Construction Company (KNCC), early estimates are trending under budget. The district has also begun the furniture review process to ensure learning spaces will be thoughtfully equipped when the building opens.
In addition, the main entry improvements project is scheduled to begin over Spring Break. During construction, the school’s primary entrance will temporarily shift to an alternate side entry to maintain safe and efficient access for students, staff, and families.
Middle School
The Middle School project has officially moved into construction. Work began with underground utilities installation, and foundational work for the structure will follow. The building foundation system has been designed to bear on improved soils supported by installed aggregate piers, providing long-term stability and minimizing settlement.
Permit approvals and site preparation over the winter months helped position the project for this active construction phase.
High School
High School improvement projects have progressed from bidding, into development of a mini-MACC (multiple award construction contract) package. These upgrades include renovations to culinary arts and science labs, restroom improvements, locker room updates, and mechanical system enhancements.
Sidewalk accessibility improvements remain included within the approved project scope and schedule, supporting safer and more accessible campus pathways.
District Signage
New district signage was successfully installed February 24–26. The project team coordinated closely with the district to minimize disruptions, scheduling work during the day while avoiding student drop-off and pick-up times.
Installation included excavation of post foundations, concrete placement and post setting, followed by hardware and signage display installation. The district is now working through training and registration processes associated with the new signage system.
Weight Room
Preparation is underway for the new weight room and restroom facility, with the existing building now fully vacated. Construction is scheduled to begin on March 2, 2026, and is expected to be completed by summer. Once finished, the renovated space will provide improved access and upgraded athletic facilities for students and the broader school community.
Seismic Grant
In addition to ongoing bond projects, Gervais School District has applied for the 2026 seismic grant. Grant award announcements are expected in mid-May 2026, which could support future safety-focused improvements across district facilities.
