Gervais High School

Gervais High School is proud to announce that it has earned full accreditation from the Cognia Global Accreditation Commission, a nonprofit organization known for its rigorous standards of educational quality and continuous improvement. This action was conferred by the Cognia Global Commission on March 31, 2025.

“Accreditation as conferred by Cognia provides Gervais High School a nationally recognized mark of quality,” said Principal Andrew Aman. “It validates the hard work and growth mindset of our staff and students and reinforces our commitment to delivering equitable, engaging, and effective learning for all.”

Cognia Accreditation is granted to schools that meet high expectations in areas including leadership, teaching and learning, resource allocation, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement. The multi-step evaluation process included a comprehensive self-assessment, submission of evidence, and stakeholder focus groups compiled of parents, staff, and students.

As part of the Cognia accreditation process, Gervais High School was assessed across six major performance categories, each reflecting critical aspects of educational quality and organizational effectiveness. GHS exceeded the national average in all six areas:

  • Engagement of Learning (GHS Score: 3.8 | Cognia Avg: 3.1)

This category evaluates how actively students participate in their learning, how instruction supports creativity, collaboration, and curiosity, and whether learners feel agency in their education.

  • Leadership for Learning (GHS Score: 3.5 | Cognia Avg: 3.1)

This area focuses on how school leadership supports continuous improvement, empowers staff, and drives effective instruction. GHS was praised for its strong leadership culture and collaborative decision-making.

  • Culture of Learning (GHS Score: 3.8 | Cognia Avg: 3.2)

This measures how well the school fosters a positive, inclusive environment where students feel respected, valued, and connected to the school community.

  • Learning Environments (GHS Score: 3.5 | Cognia Avg: 3.1)

Evaluators looked at how classrooms and school systems support productive learning, safety, and access to resources. GHS demonstrated a commitment to well-rounded and inclusive educational spaces.

  • Student Performance (GHS Score: 3.5 | Cognia Avg: 3.2)

This rating reflects how the school uses data and assessment practices to track and support academic achievement and growth across student populations.

  • Stakeholder Feedback (GHS Score: 3.3 | Cognia Avg: 3.2)

Cognia reviewed input from students, families, and staff to evaluate how well GHS engages with its broader school community. Feedback confirmed that GHS fosters strong relationships and trust.

These results not only validate the school’s day-to-day efforts but also highlight its strong foundation for continuous growth.

What’s Next for GHS?

Based on the findings and guided by Cognia’s improvement model, Gervais High School has identified the following priorities:

  • Design and implement a professional development plan to advance learner-centered instructional practices.

  • Formalize a process to ensure staff have access to an appropriately aligned curriculum.

  • Generate a plan to engage instructional staff in action research to support instructional growth.

  • Construct and deploy a systematic classroom observation plan to monitor and improve student engagement.

These action steps reflect GHS’s commitment to using data-driven decision-making and stakeholder collaboration to continually refine the learning experience.

“This recognition represents the strength of our educators, the engagement of our families, and the resilience of our students,” said Aman. “We’re building something powerful together—and this accreditation affirms we’re on the right path.”
