Dear Parents,
I wanted to give you an update regarding activities happening in the district since the Governor announced school would remain closed through April 28th.
Food Service continues to provide breakfast and lunch service to students’ homes. If you or someone you know is not receiving the service, please contact the district office at 503-792-3803. During the first week of service, the district served a total of 7282 meals. This would not be possible without the tireless work of our cooks and the many teachers and classified staff coming in to help prepare and deliver these meals. Finally, we need to send a big “thank you” to the bus drivers as well who know where students live and can help the district connect to families.
Teachers have been tasked with providing supplemental learning activities for students. I will be providing more information regarding what this looks like in each building by Friday, March 27th. The district sent out a survey last week asking parents if there was internet access at home and if students had a device to use. It is very important for you to take that survey. We are working on plans that includes every student having access to the internet and providing devices if necessary. I have videoconferences with all the Superintendents in Oregon twice per week led by the Deputy Director of Instruction at the Oregon Department of Education. I believe in the coming week there will be specific details with regard to seniors and graduation requirements. As soon as those are available, we will share the details with those students and parents. The following link is to an online letter written by the Louisiana Teacher of the Year. In this letter to seniors and their parents, he highlights his own experience with Hurricane Katrina and what it felt like to be a senior in high school during that time. I believe he offers relevant perspective so if you have the time, it would be a good activity for you and your senior (or any other student in your household) to read the letter together and take a minute to talk about its points.
As this stressful time continues, you may be seeking resources for your children as well as yourself to address both the economic and mental health realities in this time of crisis. The first link is a resource the district has not highlighted before.

Quería darles una actualización sobre las actividades que se están realizando en el distrito ya que la Gobernadora anunció que la escuela permanecería cerrada hasta el 28 de abril.
