Emily Guzman, 5th-grader at Gervais Elementary School, won third place in the 4th-6th grade division for her poem “Summer Farmhouse” in the Mid-Valley Poetry Society’s inaugural poetry contest for Marion County and West Salem students. Emily was honored to recite her poem with other winners and received a gift certificate to an area bookstore.
