Dear Families of Gervais School District Special Education Students:
We know that this is a unique and trying time for most of us, and we look forward to working together to serve our students with IEPs. We realize that as parents you know your students and circumstances best. The Gervais School District wants you to know that our priority is the health and wellness of our students and their families during this time of comprehensive distance learning. In collaboration with our general education teachers, specialists, and special education case managers, we are creating plans that will meet the needs of your children’s IEP. In creating these plans, we fully recognize that your student’s IEP was created to be implemented in a traditional school setting, which is no longer the case. Our goal is to meet each of our families where you are in this difficult situation and provide the individual support that you need to the best of our ability.
Soon, you will hear from your student’s case manager or their instructional assistant to discuss the options to serve your child during distance learning. Here are some important things for you to know:
- Each Special Education Teacher will have virtual office hours where you and/or your student will be able to connect weekly.
- We are working on providing technology devices to students in need, but all of our resources will also have an “offline” option available.
- Service minutes on an IEP reflect the total amount of time spent on that content. If you feel that it is too much or too little time in the home setting, please let your case manager know.
- Students who receive speech services will be hearing from our district speech pathologist soon about how those services will be delivered.
We understand that this is a challenging time, and we want you to know that we care about you and are here for you and your family. We invite you to communicate with your child’s Special Education case manager and we will work together to come up with a plan that is workable for your family. Please know that you and your children are greatly missed by their teachers, staff, and administrators. Gervais is committed to providing your student the best experience possible given these uncertain times. Please do not hesitate contacting us if you have any questions or concerns.

Estimadas familias de estudiantes de educación especial del distrito escolar de Gervais:
Sabemos que este es un momento único y difícil para la mayoría de nosotros, y esperamos trabajar juntos para servir a nuestros estudiantes con IEP. Sabemos que, como padres, ustedes conocen mejor a sus estudiantes y sus circunstancias. El Distrito Escolar de Gervais quiere que sepa que nuestra prioridad es la salud y el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes y sus familias durante este tiempo de aprendizaje integral a distancia. En colaboración con nuestros maestros de educación general, especialistas y administradores de casos de educación especial, estamos creando planes que satisfarán las necesidades del IEP de su hijo. Al crear estos planes, reconocemos plenamente que el IEP de su estudiante se creó para ser implementado en un entorno escolar tradicional, lo cual ya no es el caso. Nuestro objetivo es conocer a cada una de nuestras familias donde se encuentra en esta difícil situación y brindar el apoyo individual que necesita de la mejor manera posible.
Pronto, seguirá escuchando al administrador de casos de su hijo o su asistente de instrucción para discutir las opciones para atender a su hijo durante el aprendizaje a distancia. Aquí hay algunas cosas importantes que debe saber:
- Cada maestro de educación especial tendrá un horario de oficina virtual donde usted y / o su estudiante podrán conectarse semanalmente.
- Estamos trabajando para proporcionar dispositivos tecnológicos a los estudiantes que lo necesiten, pero todos nuestros recursos también tendrán una opción “sin conexión” disponible.
- Los minutos de servicio en un IEP reflejan la cantidad total de tiempo dedicado a ese contenido. Si siente que es demasiado o muy poco tiempo en el hogar, infórmeselo a su administrador de casos.
- Los estudiantes que reciben servicios del habla pronto recibirán noticias de nuestro patólogo del habla del distrito sobre cómo se prestarán esos servicios.
Entendemos que este es un momento desafiante y queremos que sepa que nos preocupamos por usted y que estamos aquí para usted y su familia. Lo invitamos a comunicarse con el administrador de casos de educación especial de su hijo y trabajaremos juntos para elaborar un plan que sea viable para su familia. Por favor sepa que sus maestros, personal y administradores extrañan mucho a usted y a sus hijos. Gervais se compromete a brindarle a su estudiante la mejor experiencia posible dados estos tiempos inciertos. No dude en contactarnos si tiene alguna pregunta o inquietud.
