We have just finished the second week of school and I’m hearing great things from our building principals and staff. I want to continue to express how excited I am to be here and thank everyone for their support as we move forward. It’s my hope that as the year progresses, the community will begin to notice changes throughout the district.
I would like to thank the custodial and maintenance department for their big push in getting all of our facilities ready for staff and students as well as the preliminary landscaping work throughout the district.  We are renting out space in the Pioneer Elementary building to the district’s online charter school. It’s nice to know that those spaces are providing a valuable service for the online staff and students and at the same time generating a bit of revenue for the district.
The food service department ran an outstanding summer program and because of Melinda Fitz-Henry and her volunteers, the district is able to host the Community Food Share Day every Thursday.
Licensed and classified staff spent many hours preparing for students and it shows. I visited every building multiple times during the first two weeks of school and everywhere I went, students were happy and positive about their learning environments. In curriculum, the district spent just over $53,000 on new social studies curriculum for grades 6-12. Â Out students deserve up-to-date curriculum and our staff deserve to have current materials for instruction.
Some of you may have noticed our new solar panels being installed on the roof of Gervais Middle School. Once the 48 panels are fully functional, the power generated will help offset the district’s energy costs. Additionally, the high school’s 40 year-old boilers were replaced as part of the district’s energy savings project.

Acabamos de terminar la segunda semana de la escuela y estoy escuchando excelentes cosas de nuestros directores de edificios y personal. Quiero seguir expresando lo emocionada que estoy de estar aquà y agradecer a todos por su apoyo a medida que avanzamos. Espero que a medida que avance el año, la comunidad comience a notar cambios en todo el distrito.
Me gustarÃa agradecer al departamento de limpieza y mantenimiento por su gran esfuerzo en tener todas nuestras instalaciones listas para el personal y los estudiantes, asà como el trabajo de jardinerÃa preliminar en todo el distrito. Estamos alquilando espacio en el edificio de la primaria Pioneer a la escuela Frontier Charter Academy. Es bueno saber que esos espacios están proporcionando un servicio valioso para el personal en lÃnea y los estudiantes y al mismo tiempo generan un poco de ingresos para el distrito.
El departamento de servicio de alimentos llevó a cabo un programa de verano excepcional y debido a Melinda Fitz-Henry y sus voluntarios, el distrito provee distribución de alimentos a la comunidad todos los jueves.
El personal pasó muchas horas preparándose para los estudiantes y se nota. Visité cada edificio varias veces durante las primeras dos semanas de la escuela y dondequiera que iba, los estudiantes estaban felices y positivos acerca de sus entornos de aprendizaje.
