Gervais School District#1 is pleased to announce that Bob Martin is being recommended as the new principal and special education director for Gervais Middle School replacing Ms. Ann O’Connell who is retiring at the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

Mr. Martin has lived in the Pacific Northwest his entire life; 52 years in Salem, Oregon. Martin has been married to Lisa Martin for 33 years this June. Lisa Martin worked as an elementary teacher in the Gervais School District for 35 years and just retired last June. Martin has two twenty-five year old twin boys who are both pursuing careers in teaching. Martin received his Bachelors of Science in Education from Western Oregon University in June of 1991. Martin received his Masters of Science in Secondary Education from Western Oregon University in June of 1995 and completed his Initial Administrators Licensure program at Portland State University in June of 2017. Martin has served as the Assistant Principal at Gervais High School for the last two years. Other positions that Martin has held in the Gervais School District include student teacher, substitute teacher, classroom teacher, assistant baseball coach, and assistant and head football coach.

“I am excited, and proud, to be chosen to help lead Gervais Middle School”, said Martin.  “I am very lucky to be inheriting a talented and dedicated staff that works with the best interests of our students in mind. Following Ann O’Connell is not going to be an easy task, but I know we will come together to continue giving our all for the students and families of Gervais Middle School!”
