Dear Parents, Students and GSD Patrons,
Early this morning (2/23/18), local law enforcement partners communicated to me that a social media threat had been posted threatening the GSD and a neighboring school district.
As a precautionary measure, we placed our district in our preplanned and designed Lockout status, using our district Crisis Plan, in coordination with the Gervais Police Department (GPD). Before school started, the GPD were on site and positioned throughout our district. By the 9 am hour it was decided that we would lift our lockout state (in communication with law enforcement) as the threat was deemed not credible, by the ongoing police investigation.
In today’s societal environment around legitimate concerns for safety in public schools, the GSD takes all threats very seriously until deemed not credible by our professional law enforcement partners. Please know that if you hear of or are made aware of any unusual social media posts and/or behaviors, or any information that you feel should be shared with law enforcement and/or the schools, we strongly encourage you to make those contacts. Do not hesitate in contacting law enforcement first and the schools second, and/or whatever the circumstances lead you to do. Please also share with your child, our students, that we will do absolutely everything we can to ensure our schools are safe, and that if they have concerns, to please contact an adult immediately – do not hesitate. Please also guide and counsel them to know that they must be very aware that any behaviors they or their friends might engage in must not be similar in nature or be considered inappropriate behaviors, posts, threats, jokes, etc., as they will be taken very, very seriously for the safety of all.
Any further concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, and if I am not able to answer I will return your call/email ASAP, and for sure within 24 hours.
