Dear Staff, Teams, and Community,
I am sure you have likely heard about the horrific school shooting Wednesday in Florida. Seventeen were reported killed at the time of this email. I am not sure how many were students at this point but I fear the worst. Seventeen individuals went to school one day and will never return to their parents, family, and friends. Please be mindful and sensitive (though so far away from us) of how to support, encourage, and guide any of our students this week whom I am sure will have heard about it by now, and likely had when it happened, given their phones. I heard of it shortly after it happened and alerted all administration and the Gervais PD, whom had just heard as well. Let’s again, be extra sensitive, aware, and supportive for our students and each other this week, and beyond if needs present themselves. If anyone needs any support or just someone to talk to, please let me or any other administrator know.
I was in the classroom for the first shootings in the 90’s and early 2000’s. It was a tough and frightening atmosphere the next day for many of my students. Our students may need to talk about it or they may not want to at all… please just be sensitive.
I long for the day this destructive behavior ends.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
