Good Friday GSD Community,
I wanted to honor this week some of our exceptional building and key program employees (GSD Employee Appreciation Day – 3/5) with comments directly from their administrators regarding their stand out performances over this last trimester, day in and day out, the following staff have demonstrated a commitment to excellence and to the very best customer service.
**Gervais School District Staff – going above and beyond for the second trimester!
ECE Program – Diana Kennedy. This year the has been plagued with long term absences that have created coverage issues. Diana has been our rock all year. She opens the Day Care each morning at 7:00 (usually arriving a bit earlier). She is always willing to stay as late as we need to support our Early Learning Center students, staff, and parents. This year she has stayed late probably more times than she has left on time.
THEN, she comes back to do child care for all our community events. Diana is a leader on our staff and she does whatever it takes to get the job done and keep our students safe, happy, and healthy, and she does it with a smile
Welcome Center – Maricruz Camacho for the years of tireless work she has put in supporting our Gervais School District families. She begins getting to know our families when they come into the Welcome Center to register. She literally is the face of the District. During this initial interview she gets to know each family, some of their background, and even more importantly, some of their needs. From the first day they are with Gervais, Maricruz is helping with resources that will support the students, but also the family. Our families trust her and as a result they seek her out when they have questions that have nothing to do with school. Even then, she seems to always be able to tell them where they can find the help they need. Gervais School District and our families are very fortunate to have a person with such a heart for service among us.
Classified – Mrs. Esther Oropeza should be celebrated for her tireless work in providing academic intervention services for our English Language Learner (ELL) students. As a team of one, Ms. Oropeza quietly goes about her work, helping 1st-grade through 5th grade ELL students strengthen both their core academic and English language skills. With her infectious laugh, she builds trust and relationships with her students by extending patience and kindness in a way that serves as a model for us all!
Licensed – Mr. Kerry Broadhurst goes above-and-beyond his mandate as a classroom teacher to directly serve students and staff across all six grade levels. From within his classroom, he is to be applauded for his inclusionary practices and celebration of diverse ideas, often times by leveraging technology in unique and engaging ways. Outside of his classroom, he regularly provides tech-based formal training and ad-hoc assistance to staff and is always willing to step up and go the extra mile to move our school forward.
Licensed – Tucker Brack
Working in tandem with our Leadership students, Tucker elevated the spirit of the entire student body this winter through his motivational messages and actions. Students rallied around his infectious spirit and are walking with more confidence. He is building the physical and emotional strength of our students.
Classified – Rodney Miller Up before dawn getting the building ready and attending to the cleaning tasks most avoid, the high school runs more smoothly because of Rodney’s presence. His friendliness and warmth also help kids feel safe.
Licensed – Andrew Aman– Andrew keeps our school running smoothly. It has been a particularly hard trimester for me personally and I have appreciated knowing the staff have had Andrew to problem solve with and to seek advice and support. He spearheads so many successful initiatives within our school, such as attendance, PBIS, and testing to name a few. He is a gifted administrator and teacher.
Classified – Michelle Zelenka – She is new to our staff this year. She has helped to create a real library in our school. She is a consummate professional. I am proud every time I walk into our library. Michelle researches ways to meet our literacy needs, and seeks trainings on technology, library resources, and new eBooks resources. No one was able to lead our Oregon Battle of the Books Team, so Michelle stepped up and filled this role, prepping our team regularly. She exceeds our expectations.
